Subject: Coaching--Speech and Debate--Newton South High School, MA
Newton South High School, one of two public high schools in Newton,
Massachusetts just outside of Boston, is in need of volunteer forensics
coaches for speech and debate during the 2001-2002 school year.
Experience in speech and dramatics coaching is a plus, as well as
participation in high school or college forensics.
Team Situation:
The Newton South Forensics team will lose its head coach at the end of
this year, as she will be taking one year's leave. The team is only four
years old, but one of Massachusetts' largest and most successful. It
consists of a group of highly talented and motivated speakers and debaters at
all grade levels. Newton South participates mostly in local speech and
congress tournaments, however it does attend both NFL and CFL Nationals if
students qualify. It also attends selected invitationals, including Holy
Cross and Harvard.
The team will have 3 assistant coaches next year who are facutly members
at Newton South. One has extensive experience coaching dramatics and
original oratory, but is also the sole theater teacher and therefore cannot
spend extensive time coaching. The other two are relatively new to
forensics, however one has become a highly successful congress coach and
qualified a student to both CFL and NFL Nationals this year.
Newton South is a chapter member of the New England District of the NFL
and also a member of the Boston Diocese of the NCFL. It is also a member of
the Massachusetts Forensic League.
Please help us continue to make our forensics program a success and allow
speech to remain an integral part of the Newton South community!
