Subject: Colin Kahl's Final Response

Again, I'm posting b/c Colin is not on the list.

KAHL'S FINAL RESPONSE

Dear All:

The debate about the "HIV doesn't cause AIDS" blocks in the
Hall/Kahl/Krakowski lab has clearly consumed far too much time on both
sides. Therefore, I will resist the urge to battle tit-for-tat on the
substantive or moral merits of the argument. You can read the previous
posts and make up your own mind about who you think is right. If you are
persuaded by arguments such as "I don't believe this -- I think this is
made up" (a response Kerpen makes to answer one of my moral objections)
or "AIDS in Africa is a lie" (another claim advanced by Kerpen), or if
you find it persuasive to defend the merits of Duesberg's claims by
reading more Duesberg evidence from Spin magazine, that is your right.
I would caution you, however, to think long and hard about radical, and
potentially dangerous, claims: radical because they are rejected by the
vast majority of qualified experts and dangerous because they feed
extreme right-wing positions. Moreover, you should be more than a little
wary of arguments promoted mainly by failed and frustrated college
debaters who clearly continue to feed off "playing the rebel" and who
seek to live vicariously through the bad arguments advanced by the
high-school kids they coach. You can choose who to take seriously and
who to treat as a joke.

In any event, nothing will change the fact that I still make the final
decisions in my lab, that it has always been that way at every institute
I have ever attended, and that it is impossible to please every student
(or their coach).

Matt (and his coach) can run any argument they are comfortable with.
They are also free to disseminate the argument at their own expense of
time and financial resources. But I am not forced by any law,
obligation, or institute policy to put my stamp of approval on them by
copying them (at lab expense) for everyone else I instruct.

Sincerely,
Colin Kahl
