Here are the Dartmouth Debate Institute Generic [Negative] Group Descriptions.
The groups had their first meetings today. If you have particular questions, I
will forward them to the instructors.

Antonucci -- China

CHINA IS HUGE. We'll produce: 1) Consultation and/or Co-operation CP; 2) An
appeasement disad; 3) Relations good/backlash; 4) Internal politics disad. We
may produce case specific disads, or do some region-specific kritik work,
depending on student preferences.

Cheshier -- Russia

This generic will comprehensively cover Russian politics, aiming to produce
these positions and others: a "consult Russia" CP, a Putin/governmental
stability position, and some arguments regarding the dangers of intentionally
engaging or isolating Russia.

Cunningham -- Japan

This will be a consult Japan CP and/or a normal "Japan for the Plan" CP. The
disads could include U.S./Japanese relations, the alliance, Japanese politics,
etc.

Davis -- Nuclear Proliferation

Welcome to the topic! Our generic will focus on whether proliferation is good or
bad, whether non-prolif or counter-prolif is a better strategy to address the
'problem,' as well as the 'threat' from non-state actors. Guaranteed to be
educational and useful for 90 percent of your debates this year.

Garen, A. -- Europe

Countries and international organizations in Europe play a strong role in
helping shape non-proliferation policy. This generic will focus on the
relationships between these countries and the US. The group will most likely
produce a US-EU relations disad, an EU/NATO CP and a consult EU/NATO CP. Other
possibilities include arguments that focus on individual countries (e.g.,
Britain).

Garen, K. -- Hegemony

This generic will research the effects that arms control policies have on US
leadership and the impacts that changes in US leadership have on international
affairs.

Hoe -- Terror Talk/Securitization/Threat Construction

Our group will work on the notions that people who debate ought not label people
as terrorists, construct them as dangerous objects or construct them as only
agents of security or objects of security.

Horowitz -- Agent

Critical to any discussion of US foreign policy regarding WMD is the specific
actor implementing that policy. This group will write a variety of Agent
arguments and answers to those arguments.

McIntosh -- Kritiks (and Answers) of International Security

This generic will use Critical IR theory to examine affirmative arguments. We'll
focus on arguments that question dominant views and hidden assumptions of
international politics. (Hint: There's a lot.) We'll focus primarily on
responses to (and defenses of) realism.

Russell -- Nuclearism

Various affirmatives emphasize the control of nuclear weapons, using traditional
approaches to arms control, whether CTBT, de-alerting, No First Use or arms
reductions. This generic will criticize this approach, saying instead that
continual reliance on nuclear weapons in any form is both immoral and dangerous.

Saloom -- Feminist International Relations

A kritik of the international system based on analyzing how gender influences
international relations.

shanahan - pax politia

(aka, posthumanism & spanos) the greatest generic in debate's history rears its
beautiful/ugly head yet again this year -- dare I say: communism = "wmd"

Sparacino -- Politics

Come and learn all there is to know about Dubya. In between rants, we will write
the DA, with a focus on links and internal links.
