Subject: Cathedral Prep Invitation
Dear Colleagues,
Cathedral Prep is pleased to extend to you an invitation to the 26th Annual
Speech and Debate Tournament to be held on December 8-9. The change of date
is necessitated by conflicts in our building and at Gannon University. We
will be able to offer even greater opportunities for competition in Congress,
Speech and Debate in the following events:
Policy Debate in both varsity and novice divisions. Novices are first
year debaters, only.
Lincoln Douglas, using the National Topic, providing a safe educational
environment.
Prose Reading-a manuscript event using NCFL rules for OI
Poetry Reading-same as above.
Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interp, Original Oratory, Duo Interp
(using NCFL rules).
We will offer five preliminary rounds of competition in the above events
which will take place on both Cathedral Prep and Gannon University campuses.
Registration for all events will take place at Cathedral Prep in the Lobby of
our Auditorium on 10th Street.
Qualified adult judges must be supplied in the following ratios: 1 judge for
every four policy or LD debaters, or fraction. 1 judge for every 5 Congress
or Speech contestants, or major fraction. Students who are qualified by NFL
standards may judge in Novice debate. A limited number of Debate judges are
available for hire at $80/judge, and speech judges at $60/judge.
Fees are assessed at the following rates and are fixed as of the registration
deadline of Monday, Dec. 4:
$30 per 2-person debate team or 4-person novice team;
$15 per Lincoln-Douglas debater; $5 per Speech or Congress participant.
Housing is available for competing students on Friday evening in the homes of
our students. The deadline for such requests is Thursday, November 30. We are
limited to a total of 100 requests. Special rates have been offered by the
Avalon Hotel (1 block from Prep) at a flat rate of $39.99 per room. Mention
the Cathedral Prep tournament and reserve by Nov. 30. Phone: 814-459-2220.
The Super 8 Downtown offers rates of $45 for a single and $49 for 2-4 people.

Meals will be served for all participants at reasonable prices in the Prep
cafeteria. We ask that no one leave the tournament to eat so that we can
remain on time. We will ask that reservations be made with registration
returns and that tickets be purchased at registration on Friday.
Congress Bills must be submitted by Tuesday, November 28 to be considered.
Students may bring bills with 50 pre-made copies for possible consideration
during Saturday sessions.
Registration will be from 1:30-2:30 in the Auditorium. The General Assembly
will follow at 3:00. Round I for all Debate events is 3:30 at Prep. Round I
for Speech will be at 4:00 at Gannon. There will be 3 rounds on Friday and 2
rounds on Saturday, followed by the first elimination round at 1:00. Awards
will be at 4:30.

>From the South: I-79 to 12th St. Exit. Turn right off ramp. Go east on 12th
St. for about 1 mile, past McDonald's one block to Peach St. and turn left.
