Dear Colleague,

You and your team are invited to the Eisenhower Eagle Invitational Debate
Tournament on November 3-4, 2000. Last year's tournament was very
competitive with over fourty entries in both varsity and novice. This years
tournament will be continuation of the exciting competition that has
typified this tournament with new changes and additions to reflect the
changing face of the Eisenhower Debate Program. The Varsity and Novice
policy debate will be held at Eisenhower, and JV policy and L-D prelim
rounds will be held in Malow Jr. High, located just a football field away
from Ike. We hope to have another competitive tournament, and we hope the
addition of Lincoln ^Ö Douglas Debate will make this our biggest and most
successful tournament to date.

FORMATS
Two-person Varsity (Friday/Saturday)- This division will participate in five
rounds of swing debate. Three of the preliminary rounds will be power
paired. The number of elimination rounds will depend on the number of
entries (last year we broke to octofinals), including a new and improved
final round.

Two-person JV (Friday/Saturday)- The format for this division will be the
same as the varsity. Last year we broke to semifinals in JV.

Four-person Novice (Friday/Saturday)- Assuming the same number of entries as
last year, there will be two preset rounds and three power paired rounds.
The number of elimination rounds will depend on the number of entries (last
year we broke to octofinals).

Lincoln-Douglas (Friday/Saturday)- We will be offering Lincoln-Douglas
format for the first time ever our invitational. Due to the fact that the
tournament falls so close to the end of October, the tournament will use the
September/October LD topic, Resolved that: Colleges and Universities have a
moral obligation to prohibit the public expression of hate speech on their
campuses.

****** Lunch and all elimination rounds will be at Eisenhower H.S.*******
.

JUDGES
You must provide one judge per four debaters in each division (i.e., one
judge covers two teams). You may not use one judge in more than one
division, other than JV and Varsity, which will be tabbed together (thus if
you need a half judge in varsity and a half judge in JV, you need two half
judges not one judge to cover both positions). JUDGES ARE OBLIGATED ONE
ROUND PAST YOUR TEAMS ELIMINATION!!!! Hired judges are very limited (first
come, first serve) at a cost of $70 for a half judge and $140 for a full
judge. If you know of people who want to judge have them let us know.

FEES
The entry fee per a Varsity/JV unit is $35. The entry fee per a novice unit
is $40. Additionally, this years Friday dinner will be prepaid. We are
providing a home cooked dinner for all students, judges and coaches. This
will be provided at a cost of $5 per person. You will receive a ticket at
registration, and will not be able to get dinner without it. Please make
sure to fill out this portion of the registration.
Please make checks payable to Utica Community Schools.

AWARDS
Each team advancing beyond preliminary rounds will receive a trophy.
Assuming we have the same entries we had last year, there will be fifteen
speaker awards for varsity, fifteen speaker awards for novice, seven for
junior varsity and ten for Lincoln-Douglas. We ask that you stay for awards
if possible,

DEADLINES
Entries must be received by Tuesday, October 29th, 2000 at 8 p.m. Fees are
frozen at 8:00 p.m. of that Tuesday. I can be reached at the following
numbers: Home (810) 254-9381 and School (810) 781-5571 x69. You may fax
your entries to (810) 781-0440. You may mail your entry to Tom Lietz
Eisenhower High School, 6500 25 Mile Rd., Shelby Township MI 48316. The
preferred method of entry is email tl6mucs@moa.net (you will receive a
message that your entry was received much quicker using this method).
*******In addition, we will be running tab on computer this year. To
facilitate this process you need to fax names of your debaters by Wednesday,
October 30, 2000************
