Subject: 2000 New Trier "Season Opener"

Hello;

>From October 6 through October 8, 2000, New Trier Township High School will
host the 2000 New Trier "Season Opener" - an annual, national debate
tournament that offers Varsity LD and Varsity CX divisions. In years past,
the LD tournament has grown to include a national draw, and the Policy
tournament has grown to include over 110 teams. Despite all the fun that we
have had in the past, however, the 2000 New Trier "Season Opener" is
expected to yield the best judging and competition ever (free food too).
Linda Oddo, Douglas Springer, Emily Anderson and the rest of the coaching
staff here at New Trier (which will include me next year) is very excited
about the "upcoming" tournament, and we hope that all of you in the LD
community strongly consider attending the 2000 "Season Opener".

Since the 2000 Season Opener is scheduled over Colombus Day weekend, it is
likely to be one of only a very few national tournaments that requires no
school absences - and since elimination rounds will be finished on the 8th
of October, all debaters will be able to observe the Yom Kippur Holiday at
home, if they choose. The Deerfield Hyatt, the "Season Opener" tournament
hotel, has even extended a special room rate of only 83 dollars per night to
all schools who wish to attend the "Season Opener" (even though those rooms
usually go for upwards of 145 dollars per night). For those teams that
cannot stay at the Hyatt or another hotel, New Trier students will even be
able to provide limited housing for some participants - as they have in
years past.

We here on the North Shore are very excited about the 2000 "Season Opener",
and we hope to see all of you in our hometown this fall. To request a
formal, written invitation, please contact Linda Oddo, chair of the New
Trier High School Speech and Debate Department, at

(847) 446 - 7000 x6885

or me, at ericgehrie@hotmail.com.

Once again, we look forward to seeing you all on the North Shore this
October - we will do everything we can to accomidate you and your students.
We believe that the educational, intellectual and competitive nature of
debate positively affects all participants, so we try our very best to offer
a well run, educational tournament to suit the needs, interests and
expectations of all coaches, judges and debaters.

Call with any questions -- thank you so much for your time.

All the Best,

Eric Gehrie
