Subject: NEDCO tournament invitation

Dear coach:

You and your team are cordially invited to attend the Northeast U.S. Debate
Championships to be held at Bergenfield High School on March 30 & 31, 2001.
The tournament is sponsored by the Northeast Debate Coaches' Organization.
Any public or private high school whose debaters fulfill the entry
requirements is invited to attend.

The tournament will feature 5 preliminary rounds of debate, to be followed by
octofinals, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. Three divisions are offered
in both policy and Lincoln-Douglas: novices (first year debaters only),
Junior Varsity (second year debaters) and Varsity.

The Bergenfield High School Debate Team will offer housing on a first come,
first served basis to schools traveling more than one hour to the tournament.
Dinner on Friday evening and breakfast on Saturday morning are included in
your entry fees.

Please read all directions carefully and return entry forms no later than
March 20. We hope you will join us for a superb competitive experience.

Registration Information

Registration can be done in any of three ways:
email: bergenfield3@csnet.net
Fax: 201-439-0978
Snail mail: Bill Barthelme
Bergenfield High School
80 3. Prospect Ave.
Bergenfield, NJ. 07621
Registration materials and housing requests must be received by March 20,
2001. There is no limit on entries who are qualified.

Fees

School registration fee: $10
Policy team: $50
Lincoln-Douglas debater: $25
Hired judge: $125

Since we are using a caterer for our meals, any drops after Thursday, March
29, will incur the full registration fee. There are no change/add/drop
nuisance fees.

Qualification

A policy team or Lincoln-Douglas debater is considered qualified if they have
participated in break rounds in at least two (2) tournaments in the division
in which they are entering. Novice and LV debaters qualify if they have won
place awards twice at MHL tournaments (which can be combined with breaking in
elimination tournaments, as long as you get a total of 2 one way or the
other). Each school is allowed two (2) "free" entries in each of the six
categories, i.e. two teams or two LD debaters who have not qualified.

Judges

We expect that only very highly qualified judges will judge at this
championship. One judge is required for each one or two policy teams and each
1-4 Lincoln-Douglas debaters. Only adults are permitted to judge Varsity.
Varsity debaters may judge in the JV and novice divisions. There are a few
hired judges available at $125 each.

The Bergenfield HS Debate Team has 170 housing slots available for Friday
evening. Housing requests will be honored on a first come, first served basis
with preference given to schools traveling the farthest distances. Only high
school student debaters and judges will be housed. Adult coaches and judges
may make arrangements at one of the following hotels:
