Subject:        [CX-L] GDS Tournament

Dear Friends,

You are cordially invited to attend the 13th annual Georgetown Day School
Debate Invitational to be held on October 4-6, 2002.

Format: There will be 7 prelim rounds of varsity debate on this year's high
school resolution.  The top 16 teams will advance to elim rounds.  Time limits
will be 8-3-5 with 10 minutes prep per side.  The first 2 preliminary rounds
will be random paired.  All other rounds will be paired high/low within
brackets with the even rounds featuring side constraints.

Entries: We are limited to a total of 64 teams. If you desire to send more than
two teams please return your entry as soon as possible, but in no event later
than September 13, 2002.  Make no definite travel arrangements until you have
received confirmation of your entry.  The preferred form of registration is

send a fax to (202) 364-9603 or by regular mail to the high school address.

Fees: The entry fee is $65.00 per team.  In addition each school will be
charged a $10.00 school fee regardless of the number of teams entered.  You may
hire judges at $80.00 per 1/2 judge.

TOC: GDS is a quarters qualifier for the Tournament of Champions.

Awards: Awards will be given to the top 17 teams and the top 20 speakers.  The
top speaker will receive the Kacey Wolmer Award.

Food: Modestly priced fare will be available in the school throughout the
tournament.  Participants are expected to remain on school grounds throughout
the tournament.

Housing: We will house students from schools outside the Washington area.  
Please indicate your housing needs as soon as possible, especially if you are
requesting housing for Thursday and/or Sunday nights.  For hotel accommodations
we recommend the American Inn of Bethesda, Maryland (301) 656-9300.

Transportation: If you travel by plane or train and need to be picked up let us
know.
