BROAD RUN HIGH SCHOOL CORDIALLY EXTENDS THIS INVITATION TO YOU TO ATTEND OUR FIRST AUTUMN INVITATIONAL DEBATE TOURNAMENT!
WHEN: November 9th, 2002
WHERE: Broad Run High School, 21670 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA, 20147
EVENTS: We will be offering four rounds of competition in the following categories:
1. Policy debate, both JV and Varsity (JV debaters must not have more than two years of experience.)
2. Lincoln â^À^Ó Douglas debate, both JV and Varsity (JV debaters must not have more than two years of experience.) The November- December LD topic will be used
3. Student Congress (an open division)
JUDGES: Each school is responsible providing a judge for every two policy teams entered, as well as every four Lincoln-Douglas debaters entered. A limited number of judges will be available for hire at a charge of $50.00 for the day.
FEES: Each school entering will be responsible for the following fees:
1. $25.00 for each policy team entered.
2. $12.50 for each competitor entered.
3. $10.00 for each member of the student congress entered.
REFRESHMENTS: will be available both in the morning and for lunch. Broad Run parents will be providing a sumptuous fare for lunch.
SCHEDULE: Saturday, November 9 â^À^Ó all events
Registration: 8:00 am to 8:30 am
Round 1 9:00 am
Round 2 10:30 am
Lunch 12:00 â^À^Ó 1:00 pm
Round 3 1:30 pm
Round 4 3:00 pm
Awards Assembly 5:30 pm
AWARDS: In both policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate, medals will be presented to each of the top three speakers. Trophies will be presented to the top three entries in each division. The top three entries in student congress will receive a trophy, and an overall sweepstakes trophy will be presented to the top school attending.
Directions:
>From the East (including eastern Maryland):
Take 267 West (Toll Road) towards Dulles Airport from either I 66 or I 495 (the Beltway)
EXIT at VA-607 at exit number 7
Turn RIGHT onto VA 607-North
Go approx. 1 ½ miles to first traffic light (next to Food Lion) and take a LEFT onto Waxpool/Farmwell Rd.
TurnLEFT at traffic light onto Ashburn Road (VA641)
Stay straight. Broad Run High School is one block on the LEFT.
>From the North (including western Maryland):
Take Route 15 South to Leesburg, VA
Bear LEFT onto Route 7 (Do NOT take RT. 7 Business)
Pass shopping area
Exit on the RIGHT to Rt. 7 East towards Tysons Corner/Washington, DC
Go approx. 4 miles
At traffic light, turn RIGHT onto Ashburn Road (on the left will be signed posted Hospital and Lansdowne)
Go approx. 3.5 miles (slow road)
Broad Run High School is on the LEFT.
>From the SOUTH:
I66 to
28 North (towards Sully and Sterling)
Go approx. 3 miles (passing a Food Lion shopping center on your left)
Turn LEFT onto Ashburn Road
Stay straight. Broad Run High School is one block on the LEFT.
