The 29th Annual Westchester Classic

The Lakeland Central School District cordially invites you to the 29th Annual Westchester Classic at Lakeland High School on Friday and Saturday January 9 and 10, 2004. We will hold five preliminary rounds in four divisions, varsity and novice policy debate and varsity and novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, breaking to an appropriate number of elimination rounds based on the number of entries in each division.

Housing

We are pleased to offer housing for a limited number of our guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests for housing must be received by Friday December 19, 2003. For adult coaches and chaperones, we recommend the Peekskill Motor Inn, 634 Main Street, Peekskill, New York, 10566 (914/739-1500).

Fees

The entry fee for each two-person debate team is $70. The entry fee for each Lincoln-Douglas entry is $35. Fees become fixed after Friday January 2, 2003. Checks should be made payable to Greg Varley.

Judging

At the time of entry in the tournament, each school must provide one competent judge for every two policy debate team entries or four Lincoln-Douglas entries or fractions thereof. A very limited number of judges will be available for hire at a rate of $150 per judge. Requests for hired judging must be received by Friday December 19, 2003. You cannot hire a fraction of a judge.

Topics

Policy debaters will discuss the proposition: "Resolved: that the United States Federal Government should establish an ocean policy substantially increasing the protection of marine natural resources."

Lincoln-Douglas debaters will discuss the January/February topic.
