Subject: [CX-L] TMS Debate Tournament Invitation
The Meadows School
Debate Tournament
September 25-26 2004
June 10, 2004
You are cordially invited to The Meadows School^Òs Second Annual Debate
Tournament, September 25-26th, 2004. We will provide competition in Varsity
Cross Examination debate on the 2004 topic - Resolved: That the United States
federal government should establish a foreign policy substantially increasing
its support of United Nations peacekeeping operations.
THE TOURNAMENT:
There is no entry deadline or entry limit. We will accept entries until we are
full. We can accommodate up to 40 teams, and expect our tournament to grow this
year. Teams who attended our First tournament were pleased with our
hospitality and style, and we hope to provide the same for all interested
schools. Last year^Òs tournament champion was The Pace Academy team of Marks and
Braunstein. They claimed the Las Vegas Debate Championship Title Belt ^Ö a seven
pound brass and leather monster made by Ringside.com, a company that
specializes in Professional Wrestling Belts.
Entry MUST be by Email to timalderete@yahoo.com. Faxed and mailed entries often
get lost. Please DO NOT attempt to enter by phone, notes at tournaments or
with students. Confirmations will be returned to all entrants with final
information, transportation directions and instructions for Final Confirmation.
In exchange for appropriate registration fees, packets will be distributed on
Friday, September 23rd at the tournament hotel.
The Varsity Division will consist of five to six preliminary debates, breaking
to Quarterfinals or the appropriate level based on entry, with four Rounds on
Saturday the 25th, finishing up on Sunday the 26th. Power matching will be
based on High Low Points, Opponents Wins, Total Points and Judge Variance. We
will never lag pair. We will never flip on stage for elim rounds. We will have
complete brackets for elims. We will always release copies of pairings.
FEES:
Fees for the tournament are $80 per team. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday and
evening activities will be included This year, we took students and judges to
The Forum Shoppes at Caesar^Òs Palace, bowling at the Sunset Station, and to a
World Class Frisbee Golf course. If there is interest, we hope to host a
Coaches Golf trip.
One judge is required for every one or two teams. Half of five is three. All
judges are committed one round beyond their school^Òs elimination. A limited
number of hired judges will be available for $150 each. Please contact us ASAP
if you need hired judges. All Judges will be required to fill out a Judge
Philosophy Sheet Please have all judges complete this before the tournament
and send the sheet by Email to timalderete@yahoo.com by Wednesday, September
21st. We will distribute these philosophy sheets to all at the tournament, and
will send them out to teams in advance, and so getting the philosophies in
advance of the tournament and in electronic form is necessary.
LODGING:
This year, we secured a rate at the Santa Fe Station of $55.00 a night for
Friday and Saturday night, and Sunday night is $29.95. We hope to secure a
similar rate for next year, and will send out hotel information as soon as we
complete it. The Santa Fe Station is a full service hotel and casino, with a
number of restaurants, buffets, a movie theatre and 24 hour bowling on site.

8601 Scholar Lane
Las Vegas, NV 89128
Thank you for your interest and we hope to see you in September.
The Meadows School is located on the Northwest side of Las Vegas, at 8601
Scholar Lane. To reach the Santa Fe Station from the airport, take the 215 West
exit from the airport for about a mile to 15 North (there are signs for both
starting at the airport). Take 15 North past the Strip to 95 North. Take 95
North (to Reno) to the Second Rancho Exit (do NOT take the Rancho exit
immediately after exiting 15.) To get to The Meadows School from the hotel,
take 95 South to the Lake Mead exit. Go West on Lake Mead. Turn Left on Scholar
Lane (If you hit Rampart, you have gone too far) and follow it around as it
curves toward the West. The school will be on the Left.
