Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to attend the 15th annual Georgetown Day School
Debate Invitational to be held on October 1-3, 2004.
Format: There will be 7 prelim rounds of varsity debate on this year's
high school resolution. The top 16 teams will advance to elim rounds.
Time limits will be 8-3-5 with 10 minutes prep per side. The first 2
preliminary rounds will be random paired. All other rounds will be
paired high/low within brackets with the even rounds featuring side
constraints.
Entries: We are limited to a total of 64 teams. We may not be able to
accept more than two teams per school. If you desire to send more than
two teams please return your entry as soon as possible, but in no event
later than September 10, 2004. Make no definite travel arrangements
until you have received confirmation of your entry. The only accepted
form of registration is email at jdgentile5@aol.com. For questions call

Fees: The entry fee is $75.00 per team. You may hire judges at $80.00
per 1/2 judge.
Judging: This year we will be using a form of the â^À^ÜMutually Preferred
Judgingâ^À^Ý system that has been used at the TOC and other tournaments.
In order for this system to work properly all persons who are expected to
judge at the GDS tournament must be identified no later than September
24, 2004 and must have posted a judging philosophy at www.thendca.com by
that same date. The list of expected judges will be distributed by email
no later than September 27, 2004 and the preferences must be returned by
email within 48 hours. We will strictly enforce these requirements this
year.
TOC: GDS is a quarters qualifier for the Tournament of Champions.
Awards: Awards will be given to all of the teams participating in elims
and the 17th seeded team.. The 17th seeded team will receive the Eun
Young Choi award. The top 20 speakers will receive awards. The 2nd best
speaker will receive the Jonathan Dach award. The top speaker will
receive the Kacey Wolmer Award.
Food: Modestly priced fare will be available in the school throughout the
tournament.
Housing: We will house students from schools outside the Washington
area. Please indicate your housing needs as soon as possible, especially
if you are requesting housing for Thursday and/or Sunday nights. For
hotel accommodations we recommend the Park Inn of Rockville, Maryland
(301-881-5200) at $79.00 per night. The hotel is approximately 20
minutes away from GDS by car.
Transportation: If you travel by plane or train and need to be picked up
let us know.
