Subject: Isidore Newman Invitational
Isidore Newman is pleased to invite you to our twentieth annual
tournament on December 12-14, 1997 in New Orleans, LA. We will do our
best to uphold the traditions of the tournament with respect to quality
of competition and an exciting environment in which to compete. We will
keep the same tournament schedule as last year which includes six
preliminary rounds of policy and Linclon-Douglas debate, breaking to
octos Saturday evening. Quarterfinals through finals rounds will take
place Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon. There will also be two
prelims in all IE's starting Saturday morning and breaking to semis on
Saturday afternoon. Our schedule does permit debaters to cross enter in
individual events.
Also note that we are once again a qualifying tournament for the
University of Kentucky's National Tournament of Champions for the policy
teams and Lincoln-Douglas debaters reaching the quarterfinals.
Due to the size of the field and quality of debaters, we will accept up
to two Varsity Policy Teams from each school. A school may enter a
third or fourth team only if it provides a qualified varsity policy
judge. We will allow up to four Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debaters per
school.
Entry fees for debaters are $50.00 per Policy Debate Team and $50.00 per
Lincoln-Douglas Debaters. Individual events entries are $15.00 each.
Hired Policy and Lincoln-Douglas judges are $100.00 per judge. Hired IE
judges are $50.00 each.
Lodging for the tournament will be available at the Ramada Hotel on St.
Charles Avenue. Rooms vary in rate from $79-$99. The hotel is located
5-10 minutes from the high school and 5-10 minutes from the French
Quarter. For hotel reservations call 504-566-1200. Please reserve rooms
by November 11 and be sure to tell them you are attending the Newman
School Debate Team Competition.

Entries are due Thursday, December 4, but in the past spaces have filled
long before that. We DO limit the size of our field because of space,
so it is recommended that you enter prior to Thanksgiving if not sooner.
