Subject: USC California Cup
Just in time for the final round to have ended, the Trojan Debate Squad
is pleased to officially announce the first annual California Cup, to be
held in conjunction with the University of Redlands Golden West
Tournament of Champions, making up the 1997 "California Swing." The USC
end of the tournament will run from December 18th to December 21st.
Policy debate will end late afternoon on the 20th, allowing ample time
to venture to Redlands. NOTE THAT UNLIKE THE TOURNAMENT FORMERLY HELD
AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT, THE CALIFORNIA CUP WILL HAVE A THREE DAY FORMAT
BEGINNING ON THURSDAY NIGHT THE 18TH. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND
FROM OUTSIDE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, PLEASE MAKE YOUR TRANSPORTATION
ARRANGEMENTS ACCORDINGLY.
For this years tournament, USC has adopted the quarterfinal bid status
for the TOC formerly held by LMU.
The following events will be offered:
Debate: Varsity Policy, JV Policy, Varsity LD, JV LD
Individual events: HI, DI, EXT, IMP, OO, EXP, TI, DUO, SPAR
Official invitations will be mailed this week. If you have not
previously received invitations to USC tournaments, but are interested
in attending, please e-mail Director of Forensics David Damus at
damus@aol.com.
This weekends Trojan Championships featured over 50 schools from around
10 states, including over 80 teams in Varsity Policy Debate. We look
forward to hosting many of the same competitors and many more of you who
seek challenging national competition and top quality judging.
If you plan to attend, you are encouraged to make hotel reservations
IMMEDIATELY. The tournament hotel is the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza -
Dpwntown (on Figueroa), which is located directly across the street from
USC. Rooms are $75, and with conventions in town and vacationers, rooms
at this and other area hotels will be difficult, if not impossible, to
come by at the last minute. The toll free number is (800)244-7331 in
California, and (800)872-1104 out of California. Identify yourself with
the "Trojan Debate Tournament" to receive our special tournament rates.
We look forward to spending a weekend with you in sunny (and currently
around 70 degrees) Los Angeles!
