Subject: 1997 USC Trojan Championships
Here is the information for those of you who have not received a hard
copy of the invitation to the 1997 Trojan Debate Championships, to be
held on the campus of the University of Southern California November 7th
throught 9th.
Last year, teams from CA, UT, AZ, TX, IL, NV, OH, and LA joined us.
This year all QUARTERFINALISTS are guaranteed a leg to the TOC.
This year, we will hold competition in policy debate, lincoln-douglas
debate, humerous interp, original oratory, impromptu, dramatic interp,
exposatory speaking, and extemporaneous. All divisions have JV amd
Championship levels of competition. Computers will be awarded to the
first place team in LD, team debate and sweepstakes.
The tournament hotel is the Hyatt Regency. A special rate of $80 per
night has been arranged for for all participants (up to 4 people per
room). Please call 213-683-1234 immediately to make reservations, as
space is limited. Identify yourself as being with the "Trojan
Championship Debates" when calling the hotel.
Registration will begin at noon on Friday November 7 and go until 2PM.
The first round for policy and LD will begin at 3PM. Debate will go 6
rounds and break to double-octos on Sunday. Individual events
registration can be done on the phone Friday from 3-6.
Entry fees are as follows:
Policy debate - $55 Per Team
Lincoln-Douglas - $35 Per Entry
I.E. - $9 per event
A limited number of hired judges are available ($80 for each uncovered
team in team debate, $50 for each uncovered LD entry, and $10 for each
uncovered slot in IE), but each team MUST meet 3/4 of their judging
committment. Exceptions must be requested from the tournement director.
So how do you register?
ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY NOON ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31st!
All entries must be in writing. Entries will be accepted via fax and
e-mail. All faxed entries must have a cover sheet addressed to Mr.
John Day. Mail entries to Trojan Debate Squad, Annenberg School for
Communications, USC, 3502 Watt Way, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0281. The fax
