Dear Debate Friends,

You are cordially invited to attend the 15th Annual West Charlotte
Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament in Charlotte, NC on February
20-21, 1998. Our tournament is traditionally regional in nature,
attracting schools from Virginia to Georgia and provides what we feel to
be an excellent variety of events as well as an efficiently managed
schedule.  We welcome guests from outside of the southeast as well and our
debate families have graciously agreed to accommodate those guests with
free housing during the tournament for teams travelling from more than 250
miles away.  If your team will be travelling more than 250 miles and you
would like to take advantage of this offer, please notify me by February
10, 1998. 

The West Charlotte Invitational will offer the following events:
Varsity and Novice CX Debate                    Extemporaneous Speaking
Lincoln Douglas Debate (Open Division)          Original Oratory
Student Congress                                Humorous Interpretation
                                                Dramatic Interpretation
                                                Duo Interpretation
                                                Oral Interpretation
                                                Impromptu Duet Acting

Awards:
1st-3rd  Overall Team Sweepstakes
Jacqueline F. Foote Congress Sweepstakes Trophy
Rachel Roberts Award for Excellence in Coaching
        CX Debate:      Awards for Semi's and Finals for each division
                        (Quarters if numbers warrant)
        Speaker Awards    1st-5th place each division
        Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Awards for Quarter-Finals
                                (Octa-Finals if numbers warrant)
        Student Congress:  Best Presiding Officer for each chamber
                                Speaker Awards    1st-5th each chamber
                                Outstanding & Superior Speakers in 
				Super Congress
        Individual Events:      Awards for Semi-Finals
                                (Quarters should a particular event
				warrant it)

In order to insure the smooth operation of our tournament, entries must be
received by February 16, 1998.  You may add entries up to February 18, but
any drops after February 16 are due full fees.  Please include Congress
legislation with your registration.  Each Congress competitor must submit
at least one piece of legislation with your initial registration or they
will not be allowed to compete.  Feel free to contact me with any
