Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to attend the ninth annual Georgetown Day High
School Debate Invitational to be held on October 2-4, 1998. Please note the
change in dates. Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, VA will be running a
Novice and Junior Varsity Policy, a Varsity and Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas
and Individual Events Tournament that same weekend. It is very easy to commute
between our schools and we hope that you consider sending students to both
tournaments that weekend. For more information about the Edison tournament

TOC: Despite anything else you may have heard or read, GDS will be a
quarterfinals qualifier for the Tournament of Champions in policy.
Format: We will offer Seven preliminary rounds of varsity debate on this
year's high school resolution. The time limits will be 8-3-5 with ten minutes
prep per side.
Entries: If you wish to register more than two teams please indicate and we
will maek every effort to accomadate you. Please return your entry form as
soon as possible, but in no event later than September 25,1998. You may
register or make inquiries via email at GDSDb8@aol.com. If you wish to fax
your entries you may do so c/o Jim Gentile at (301) 933-7628. For late changes
and other crises please call Jim Gentile anytime at (301) 933-9522.
Fees: The entry fee per team is $60.00. In addition, each school will be
charged a school fee regardless of the number of teams entered. You may hire
judges at $75.00 per 1/2 Judge.
Awards: Awards will be presented to the top seventeen teams and the top twenty
individual speakers.
Food: Modestly priced fare will be available in the school throughout the
tournament. Participants and judges are expected to remain on school grounds
throughout the tournament.
Housing: We will offer housing for Friday and Saturday nights to students from
outside the Washington area. Please indicate your housing needs as soon as
possible, especially if you need to request housing for Thursday and/ or
Sunday night. We will make every effort to accommodate any special housing
needs you may have, but please help us by indicating in advance on your entry
form so we may plan. For hotel accommodations, we recommend the Ramada Inn of
Bethesda, Maryland at (301) 654-1000.
Transportation: If you travel by train or plane and need to be picked up let
me know.
