Subject: Novice Round-Up at St. Mark's
December 8th, 1998
We are pleased to extend this invitation to the first annual Novice Round-Up
at St. Mark's. The tournament will be held on the weekend of January 29-31,
1999 at the St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas. The St. Mark's community is
excited to extend this additional service to the debate community and we hope
you will consider attending.
We will offer first year debaters the unique excitement and competition of a
full schedule debate event. The tournament will feature six preliminary
rounds in Policy and Lincoln-Douglas over two days, with elimination rounds on
the third day. An awards banquet (included in the entry fee) will be held on
Saturday evening. A variety of social functions will also be a part of the
Round-Up experience.
The Holiday Inn Select of North Dallas will be the host hotel for this event.
Special room rates have been secured and elimination rounds will be held at
the hotel. Please contact the hotel by January 14th to secure the special
room rate of $69.00 per night--single, double, triple, or quad. The phone
number of the hotel is 972-243-3363.
We will accept the first sixty entries in both divisions. Please contact us
as soon as your plans to attend are firm. Thanks for your attention and time.
Additional information follows, thanks again.

St. Mark's Debate
Entry:
First year students only. We will take entries (first come first served)
until we have 60 entries in Policy and LD. You may reply to this post, or
call 214-346-8141 to enter. Paper invitations will be mailed next week. We
will debate the NFL topic in both divisions (January LD topic) using standard
formats with 10 prep in Policy, 5 in LD.
Fees:
$50.00 per debate team, $25.00 per Lincoln-Douglas entry. Fees reflect our
anticipated expenses--we hope. The fee includes the awards banquet and a tee-
shirt for each student. If you can't afford the entry fee, call me and you
won't have to pay. In the event there is money left when everyone goes home,
we will give it to the NDCA Barton Scholars Scholarship Fund.
Judges:
One for every two entries. HIRED JUDGING WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE. Students who
