Subject: Tournament at the University of Michigan

Dear Coach/Debater,
You are cordially invited to attend the University of Michigan
Invitational Debate Tournament, which we are hosting in Ann Arbor,
December 4-6, 1998.
Our tournament will consist of three divisions of policy debate
(varsity, junior varsity and novice), and one division of LD debate
(varsity). All divisions will feature six preliminary debates and
appropriate elimination rounds. Novice policy debate teams will be
4-person.
The varsity policy debate division will operate as a three-day
tournament, all other divisions will be a two-day tournament. The
schedules are enclosed. The Policy Debate Tab Room will be directed
by
Steve Mancuso, the LD Tab Room will be directed by Bryce Pashler and
Liz Rogers.
Fees: $50 per policy team, $25 per LD debater. The tournament will
offer continental breakfast and lunch for all participants on
Saturday.
We may be able to provide a limited amount of hired judging at a rate
of $80 per uncovered policy team or LD debater. Please try to
arrange
your own hired judging.
Hotel: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Clarion Hotel in
Ann
Arbor (2900 Jackson Road, 48103). A flat fee of $50 per room has
been
arranged. Please speak with Ed Hager when you call for reservations.
Please book your reservations immediately, as the block expires on
11/17/98. (734)-665-4444.
Registration: will take place at the Clarion on Friday from 12:00
noon
to 3:00 p.m. All debates will take place on the University of
Michigan
campus.
Transportation: (Flying) Detroit Metro Airport is a hub for
Northwest
Airlines and is approximately 25 miles East of the Clarion and the U
of
M campus. (Driving) The Clarion is located at exit #172 (Jackson
Road)
of I-94, three miles south of the University of Michigan campus.
Parking is available on the U of M campus.
Entries: You may enter the tournament either through the U.S. mail
or
e-mail. Entries must include the names of your judges for each
division. The entry deadline is Tuesday, December 1, at 5:00 p.m.
