Dear Coach,
You and your team are cordially invited to attend the Northeast Debate
Championship Tournament to be held at Lakeland H.S. and Walter Panas H.S. in
Shrub Oak, N.Y., on Friday, March 31st and Saturday, April 1st. This will be
the first of what we hope will be an annual tournament for debate teams from
the Northeast region of the United States.
The Northeast Tournament will feature novice, JV, and varsity divisions in
policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate. A policy team or a Lincoln-Douglas debater
qualifies for this tournament if they have won at least two (2) place awards
at tournaments since September 1st, 1999. For novice and JV debaters, placing
twice at an MHL tournament (top 10) qualifies the debaters. If your school
does not have a qualified team or debater in a division of policy or LD, you
may enter one team/debater as a "free entry." We hope this will encourage all
schools in the Northeast to attend.
You do not have to be a member of the Northeast Debate Coaches Organization
to attend the tournament If you would like to join, please contact me (Bill
Barthelme) for information.
This will be a great opportunity for your top teams/debaters to debate the
best students from the Northeast U.S. Please plan to attend.

$20 per student, regardless of category

Housing is not available for this tournament. Students needing housing are

AWARDS:
Top ten( 10) speakers in novice, JV and varsity policy
Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Finals in policy
Octofinals, Quarters, Semis, Finals in novice, JV and varsity LD
JUDGING:
One judge is required for every 1-3 LDers and 1-2 policy teams. We request
that coaches only bring qualified, trained judges to this championship
tournament. A very limited number of hired judges will be available for $120
each. Please contact me if you need to hire. Seniors who are experienced
policy and LD debaters may judge in the novice and JV divisions; juniors who
are experienced varsity debaters can judge in the novice divisions. Only
adults in varsity, please.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
Friday, March 31st:
1-2:30 p.m. - Final registration at Lakeland H.S. - policy
Final registration at Panas H.. S. - LD only
3 p.m. - Assembly
3:30 p.m. - Round I
5:30 p.m. - Round II
7:30 p.m. - Dinner at Lakeland & Panas H.S
8:30 p.m.- Round III
Saturday, April 1st:
9a.m. -Round IV
*Please note that Round IV will begin at 9 a. m. on Saturday morning. This
will allow schools that' commute to the tournament to leave home at a
reasonable hour on Saturday morning.
11 a.m.-Round V
12:30 p.m. - Lunch at Lakeland H.S. for all
1:30 p.m. - All elimination rounds at Lakeland H.S.
