Dear Debate Coach,
You are cordially invited to take part in the first annual Potomac
Falls High School Debate Tournament! Four divisions of debate will be
offered in the two-day meet on Friday November 19, 1999, and Saturday
November 30, 1999. The divisions are as follows:
1. Varsity Policy (Switchside)
2. Junior Varsity Policy (Switchside)
3. Varsity Lincoln-Douglas
4. Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas
-Registration: Registration will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday,
November 19, 1999. The DEADLINE to enter the tournament is Friday
November 12, 1999, any time during the day. Entry forms must be either
mailed to Alice Foltz at Potomac Falls High School, or faxed to Alice
Foltz at Potomac Falls High School (fax: 703-444-7552). You may also
call Alice Foltz at school (703-444-7544), or at home (703-830-4194).

-Trophies: Awards will be given to the top five speakers in each
division, and all debaters who break to semifinals will receive
trophies. A grand prize trophy will go to the top school!
-Fees: Each school will be assessed a $10.00 registration fee. The fee
for each Policy team is $25.00, and the fee for each Lincoln-Douglas
debater is $13.00. All fees are due at registration.
-Judges: For each two Policy teams, or each four Lincoln-Douglas
debaters, or fraction thereof, a qualified judge is required. A limited
number of judges will be available for purchase at $100 each.
-Drops: Must be by Wednesday, November 17, 7 p.m. or school will be
assessed original fee. Drops which involve judges hired at coaches^Ò
request by the tournament will be assessed the full fee for the judge,
regardless of the time at which the drop occurs.
-Format: Policy will use the standard 8-3-5 format, with 8 minutes of
prep time for JV and Varsity. There will be six rounds of debate
preliminaries in each category and division. Scores will then be
tallied, and the top scoring teams will break for semi-finals, and then
finals.
-Rules: All JV debaters must be in their first or second year of
debate. The November-December Lincoln-Douglas topic will be used.
-Miscellaneous: Directions, registration forms, and schedules are
