Subject: The Novice Round-Up at St. Mark's

This is the short notice. Paper invitations will be mailed early next week
to everyone currently on the St. Mark's tournament list. If you want a paper
invitation, and you do not currently get St. Mark's invitations, please reply
to this e-mail address with your mailing address. The first Novice Round-Up
was attended by schools from ten states.

The Novice Round-Up at St. Mark's
January 28-30, 2000
The St. Mark's School of Texas
Dallas, Texas

Transportation:
Arrive on Friday (morning to mid-afternoon) January 28th, depart Sunday
evening January 30th. You will want to have ground transportation/rental car
or van.

Divisions:
Novice Policy Debate (first year debaters) and Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate
(first year debaters). No limits on entries per school. Divisions will be
closed when we run out of space.

Schedule:
Six preliminary rounds. Four rounds will be powered (high/low within
brackets) leading to appropriate elimination rounds. Elimination rounds will
be held on Sunday at the hotel.

Hotel:
The Renaissance Dallas North Hotel
4099 Valley View Lane
Dallas, Texas 75244
972-385-9000

VERY nice property at the corner of Interstate 635 and Midway--about ten
minutes from the school. The VERY special tournament rate is $69.00 per
room. We do request that attending schools stay at the Renaissance so that
we can fill the block and get a break on conference rooms for elimination
rounds. If at all possible, please stay at the Renaissance.

Judging/Fees:
The usual ratio: one judge per two entries. This year we will allow schools
to hire judging at $20.00 per round. Entry fees: Debate teams--$60.00 per
team. LD entries--$30.00 per entry. Entry fee includes awards dinner (Texas
BBQ) on Saturday night.

Y'all come.
