Subject: States MA results
Here are the Varsity LD results from the Massachusetts State Championship held
on March 20 at Bedford High School.
Though there were no (LD) speaker awards, here were the top five speakers:
5. Jackson Scarlett, Manchester; 111.0 total points/56 high-low.
4. and 3. (tie) Sean Kelleher, Needham and Peter Myers, Needham; 112.0
total/56 high-low.
2. Livia Istrate, Lexington; 112.5 total/56.5 high-low.
1. Katherine Fisher, Lexington; 115.0 total/58 high-low.
Due to time constraints, quarterfinal rounds could not happen, so the top four
seeds "byed" into semis, while seeds five through eight received awards but
did not debate. Those debaters were:
8. Needham SK, Sean Kelleher
7. Lexington AJ, Aaron Joslow
6. Lexington MH, Molly Hutton
5. Manchester JS, Jackson Scarlett
The semis and finals results are as follows.
Lexington LI (Aff.) def. Needham PM (Peter Myers) (4) (2-1)
Lexington OM over Lexington KF (Katherine Fisher) (3) (Close-out)
Finals: Lexington LI (Livia Istrate) (1) over Lexington OM (Orly Menzin) (2)
(Close-out).
So the 1999 Massachusetts State Champion in Varsity LD is Livia Istrate from
Lexington High School. Congratulations to Livia and everyone else!
