Subject: University of Colorado Flatirons LD Round Robin
Last thursday, November 5, 1998, nine l/ders from Colorado, Maine, Iowa,
and Texas debated in the first annual University of Colorado Flatirons LD
Round Robin.
The participants were:
Stephanie Jenkins -- Bangor High School
Eiman Abdel-Azim -- Cherry Creek High School
Mark Filarowicz -- Cherry Creek High School
Louis Provost -- Grapevine High School
Korinna Selstad -- Lakewood High School
Michael Dawson -- Lakewood High School
Jason Lawrence -- Muscatine High School
Justin Herndon -- Newman Smith High School
Robby Gilbert -- Standley Lake High School
Out of these nine, four broke to the semifinals. There was a tie for
fourth seed. Eiman Abdel-Azim was the fifth place debaters, based on
hi/low speaker points. It was extremely competitive.
Semifinals
----------
1. Grapevine Louis Provost d. 4. Lakewood Michael Dawson on a 3-0
decision.
The critics were: John Clark, Robert Martin, and Michelin Massey.
2. Newman Smith Justin Herndon d. 3. Bangor Stephanie Jenkins on a 3-0
decision.
The critics were: Craig Clark, Dan Nelson, and Sean Walsh.
Finals
------
2. Newman Smith Justin Herndon d. 1. Grapevine Louis Provost on a 4-3
decision.
John Clark, Molly Munch, Dan Nelson, and Sean Walsh were in the majority.
Craig Clark, Michelin Massey, and the house vote were in the minority.
The house vote consisted of the audience members, minus those with school
ties to the debaters as a single ballot.
