Subject: Gonzaga Results
Gonzaga University's high school tournament took place last weekend in
Spokane, Washington. There were a few unexpected developements due to the
fact that the fourth round of debate was scheduled for 9:00 which is the
absolute latest that a debate round can start in Washington State, meaning
that if this round was even a minute late, the tournament would have
violated WIAA rules. Of course, the round was cancelled.
The result was a break to "hidden" quarterfinals out of a field of 65. It
took a 4-1 with good speaks to break.
Quarters:
1. Auburn AOC def 8. Sehome JH (Jon Helfgott) 3-0
2. Sehome JA def 7. Clackamas CD (Cameron Downing) 3-0
3. Auburn AOB def 6. Beaverton MA (Mahrad Almatahari) 3-0
4. Beaverton RP def 5. Lakeside JS (J.P. Snapp) 2-1
Semis
1. Auburn AOC def 4. Beaverton RP (Rebecca Paxson) I don't know the ballot
count
2. Sehome JA def 3. Auburn AOB (Ashley Obray) 2-1
Finals (both involved recieve TOC bids)
In a great final round, Josh Anderson of Sehome defeats Andy O'Connell of
Auburn on a 2-1.
Congrats to all that broke, and especially to Josh and Andy. Josh has now
fully qualified to TOC without leaving Washington state and Andy is
halfway there.
Later,
Jon Helfgott
