ANNIVERSARY BEGINS
PRINCETON TOURNAMENT MOVES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY FOR THIS YEAR
The TOC qualifier tournament normally held at Princeton High School in
Ohio, is being moved to the University of Kentucky for this year. The
tournament will be in Lexington KY on Friday Saturday and Sunday, December
5,6, and 7. Invitations are being prepared, please email if you would like
to request one. THE TOURNAMENT WILL RETAIN THE SAME TOC QUALIFYING LEVELS
THAT IT WOULD HAVE, HAD IT REMAINED IN PRINCETON THIS YEAR. In two person
debate it will be a TOC qualifier at the quarterfinal level, and Lincoln
Douglas will be a qualifier at the finals level.
Please note that the Ohio Valley Invitational normally held the second
weekend in December, will not be held at the University of Kentucky this
year.
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT MOVES TO UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA
I have been informed that Loyola Marymount University will not host its
annual high school tournament and that the tournament will be moved to the
University of Southern Cal. The dates as I understand it will be Dec 18,
19, and 20. According to Chuck Ballingall, of Damien High School, the
invitations for the California Swing should now be available. THE LOYOLA
REPLACEMENT AT USC WILL RETAIN ITS TOC STATUS AS A QUALIFIER AT THE
QUARTERFINALS LEVEL. The Loyola tournament was left off the original
qualifying list as published in the Rostrum etc. because I was told that
the tournament would not be held. Since USC is taking it over, I am
putting it back on the qualifying list as a TOC qualifier because I have no
reason to think that USC will not draw as well as Loyola.
Please note: This is not a change in our practice of not adding
tournaments to the qualifying lists once the year has begun. I regard
these two tournaments as already established and hence feel justified as
continuing their qualifying status simply because they are not new but are
being held at a new location.
Sincerely
JW Patterson
TOC Director
