RE: TOC warning: Rocky Mountain Challenge NOT a TOC-Qualifier for
1999-2000

Dear Colleagues:

It has come to our attention that a tournament calling itself "The Rocky
Mountain Challenge" in the Salt Lake City, Utah region is claiming
either to be or will be a TOC qualifier for 1999-2000. At the very
least, several coaches have contacted me regarding whether this
tournament is actually on the TOC tournament list based on alleged
claims made by persons affiliated with this tournament. I have not
spoken to anyone associated with this tournament but based on the number
of emails and phone calls I have received just in the past week, a
bulletin clarifying the status of this tournament is in order.

After consulting with Dr. Patterson, TOC Director, and Ms. Barker, TOC
Registrar, let me take this opportunity to set the record straight
regarding the status of this tournament: The Rocky Mountain Challenge
Tournament/Invitational is *NOT* a TOC qualifying tournament, nor will
it be recognized as one for 1999-2000 retroactively.

If you attend this tournament this year, DO NOT base your decision on
any expectation of earning any TOC qualifying legs in either policy or
L-D.

The ONLY TOC qualifying tournament for 1999-2000 in Utah is the Alta
Silver & Black Invitational to be held the weekend of December 10th.
Karl Packer is
the Director of this tournament and his phone number is 801-256-5074.

As announced numerous times by Dr. Patterson and myself since last year,
the TOC will *NOT* retroactively recognize tournaments as TOC
qualifiers, REGARDLESS OF SIZE OR QUALITY OF DRAW. The 1999-2000 list
of TOC tournaments was announced last summer and we will consider
applications for the
2000-2001 season at the next TOC this spring.

So if you are considering attending this or any other non-listed
tournament with the hope of earning 1999-2000 TOC qualifying legs,
consider yourself warned that the TOC will not honor any claimed bids
from unauthorized tournaments.

Could someone in the Utah area or anyone who has contact information
for the director(s) of this tournament please backchannel it to me
ASAP? I would also appreciate it if someone forwarded this message to
the director(s)/contact person(s) of the Rocky Mountain Challenge and if
they have any questions, they can contact me at <TOC_Asst@hotmail.com>.

Replies/comments regarding this message should be sent to:
<TOC_Asst@hotmail.com>, not this address.

Thank you!
